I chose to join the Memorisely bootcamp after following the instructor Zander Whitehurst on Instagram. He has managed to bootstrap an impressive and engaged design community through his electric energy and experience.

The bootcamp was completely remote, yet each class offered hours of hands-on learning experience, collaborating with designers from around the world. We worked with real-world products complete with product briefs from the actual product teams of Miro and the Anyone App.

Through the bootcamp, I learned best practices for UX/UI Design and Design Thinking, as well as remote facilitation and how to work effectively across cultures.

It was obvious, the Memorisely bootcamp was the right choice for me.

Bootcamp days

During the bootcamp, I felt thoroughly connected to my ten fellow designers as we facilitated live classes, workshops, and design sessions.

My class was made up of UX and UI designers from Germany, Mexico, Spain, Morocco, England, and Switzerland (to name a few). We worked together in real-time in Figma and Miro to learn, ideate, and design.

I found the diverse backgrounds and skills of each team member stunning, as we gathered learnings cross-culturally and approached design thinking from different perspectives. As the bootcamp went on, we found ways to support each other and to dig deeper into our learnings, always collaborating in real-time.

Outcomes

Throughout the bootcamp, I immersed myself in the design community. I worked on end-to-end design projects, read books and blogs, wrote thought leadership articles, and built a portfolio site.

The bootcamp prepared me at the Junior Designer level, but it also set me up for quick learning and a quality understanding of best practices. I chose to focus on UX and now focus on incorporating psychology and behavior design into my work.
